More than 200 km of cycle paths are present in the agglomeration. La Rochelle is undoubtedly a city for lovers of the “little queen”.

Some ideas for a walk around La Rochelle:

1) A gentle stroll through the city

Take the time to appreciate the arcaded streets and mansions that you find all over the old town! End your day by resting your bikes to enjoy the nearby beach.

2) Feel the spray on the coastal path by bike

Escape from La Rochelle to explore the coastal paths. Depart from the Old Port and drive on the country roads that will take you to Esnandes. Walk along the wild coast to discover typical landscapes. From Pointe Saint Clément to the cliffs of Pertuis, you will discover unique seascapes. It is also an opportunity to contemplate the squares.

3) A bike trip to Châtelaillon-Plage

Between La Rochelle and Châtelaillon, take one of the most pleasant stages of the Vélodyssée. Go on a bike ride and cross the 14 km that separate the two cities. The opportunity to discover the attractive seaside resort of Châtelaillon and its “Belle-Époque” villas before heading to the village of Boucholeurs.

4) Venture out on the Île de Ré by bike

For a nature excursion, nothing better than getting on your bike to take advantage of the 110 km of cycle paths on the Île de Ré. Between marshes, vineyards and beaches, ride smoothly on roads accessible to all. Take a break in Saint-Martin-de-Ré to sip a drink with a view of the sea.

5) The Vélodyssée

Along the Atlantic coast for nearly 1,200 km, the Vélodyssée is a section of the largest “cycle path” in Europe! Travel more than 250 km between Bordeaux and La Rochelle for an unforgettable cycling experience… From the Bordeaux vineyards to the oysters of Marenne, you will enjoy a magnificent view of the ocean all along the way… Stop in the small villages typical of the coastline and meet regional producers!

6) Country trip along the Vélo Francette

Less well known than the Vélodyssée, the Vélo Francette is a 600 km circuit that stretches from Rouen to La Rochelle. For a short outing for two, choose the Marans – La Rochelle section for 26 km of road between countryside and marshes. Swap your bike for a boat for a bucolic stroll in the Poitevin marshes. A unique walk for nature lovers!
